This new Group will run fortnightly on Thursdays October 15th, October 29th, November 12th, November 26th and December 10th. Each session will start at 10.15 and run for 2 hours until 12.15. The meetings will take
place in the Chapel House at the side of Southover Church on Southover High Street
This is a continuation of a series of Groups which have been running for a number of years looking at engineering and technology issues. The focus of this one will be to look at how, over time, things we take for
granted today have evolved driven by increased scientific understanding, the
emergence of new technologies, and customer demands.
It is presently envisaged that the Group will run for ten sessions over two quarters - Autumn 2026 and Winter 2027. We will look at how products and designs have evolved within particular sectors. Details of each session will be advised in advance of each session and the specific topics will be refined nearer the session dates, based in part on suggestions from Group Members. It is likely that specific sectors will include:
- - The Construction Industry
- - Transportation
- - The Entertainment Industry
- - Utilities
- - Mining and quarrying
- - Medicine and Life Sciences
- - Agriculture and Forestry
- - Communications
- - Retail services
- - Foodstuffs
Each session will be based around PowerPoint presentations which will be fully illustrated. Members of the Group will not be required to have any specific scientific or technical knowledge, and the experience from earlier similar Groups is that Members enjoy some insight into matters which they have little familiarity with.
There will be a short break halfway through each session, and as refreshments will not be available, members are encourage to bring their own.
