AI
4 Life
A
new Lewes u3a group, convened by Bryan Tully

This
new group is not designed for complete novices who have not yet
started using any AI application. Instead, it is for those who have
made a start, using at least one chatbot or other application, and
want to work with others to put AI to work in practical ways. This
would include any of us who attended a previous u3a workshop on using
AI tools, run by John Evans and Nigel Baker.
Those
who have not yet started a project or who are predominantly
interested in the philosophy or politics of AI, are also welcome.
Everyone
should be aware that there are some drawbacks and dangers of using
AI. These have been widely discussed in the press and we shall try
to put these in perspective.
However,
AI has proved to be one of the most powerful and exciting assistances
to the human mind ever developed. We are likely moving into an AI
saturated future. We need to know how to move in this environment.
The
plan is that we meet in a small group, or sometimes more than one, to
discuss our projects, share our successes and help each other solve
problems. Hopefully we can find wise and imaginative ways to
harness AI to better pursue our individual goals.
The
first meeting of this group will be on 23rd
June 2026, 10.00 a.m.–12.00 p.m. at Lewes Friends Meeting House
(Community Room+kitchen) at 32 Friars Walk, BN7 2LE, about 100 metres
from Gails at School Hill bottom. The rooms, grounds and one toilet
are accessible.
Thereafter
the meetings will be every LAST TUESDAY of the month, until 29 Dec
2026 when we shall have a review. The room costs £32 per session and
members joining will be asked for an initial single £20
contribution, which should take us to the end of the year.
